Normally uses a 3/8 drive ratchet and short extension. Stick it in the square hole and voila! - turn it and it comes out. If it's bigger than 3/8", use 1/2" drive. David G.

Removing a spare tire is easy to do from a Chevy Suburban. The tire is removed with the tool that is located on with your jack.
Remove driveshaft, remove pinion nut, remove rear cover, remove axles, remove differential. Push pinion out through housing.
Should be 2 1/2 pints.
