Have not tried top remove the door panel yet but looking at the options for windowe regulators and motors for the 02 grand am's it looks as if the mototr is actually rivetted to the requlator. Have been looking at e-bay for complete regulator and motor assemblies http://search.eBay.com/Pontiac-grand-am-window-regulator_W0QQfkrZ1QQfnuZ1 maybe this will help. It sure has me confused.
AnswerFound a very good site that has illustrated the door panel removal and window regulator/motor replacement along with diagnosticshttp://www.a1electric.com/grandam.htm
Answer
Repair shop wants $616 for parts and labor to replace the motor and regulator on my front driver side door. They already charged me $90 of that to take off the panel and check it. Had I known it would be this expensive, I definitely would have tried it myself!
UPDATE: 12/16/2008
I am having to replace my Front D.Side window regulator and motor in my 2001 P. GrandAm. The motor is actually bolted to the regulator on OEM part that I removed on the 2001, but in reality ... it doesn't much matter; most sites I visited sell the motor or the motor and regulator together. I really only needed the regulator myself. I haven't rec'd the part I ordered yet, but I guess worst case scenario, I have an extra motor in case the new one fails. Although, my guess is that the OEM motor may not likely work with the new replacement part set-up. The website you referenced was awesome ... it was to the letter how to get the panel off. I have already removed the old part and just waiting for the new to arrive so it can be installed.
take it to the dealership. part is only about $32, but it needs to be riveted on. This would depend on the model, I had a 1996 Tahoe, and I have replaced interior, and exterior door handles with no problem, none of them were riveted in, all screwed in.
take it to a mechanic, unless you are a mechanic, then say "oh crap i am screwed"
That depends upon the type of handle. Some handles are sewn on and you'd need some help with that.If it's riveted or screwed in you can replace those. You'll have to be care to get new rings if needed.
It is screwed on. Turn it counterclockwise. If it is an automatic there is a little horseshoe clip in the front of the shifter just pop it out and the shifter knob will pop off.
Screwed into the exhaust pipe
It's up under the left side of the dash behind the light switch. A bracket is screwed to the inside top of the dash and the fuse box is riveted to the bracket.
Neither, it was riveted together. Initially the pieces were assembled in the factory using bolts, and then were replaced one by one with heated rivets, which contracted during cooling creating a very tight fit. Only a third of the 2,500,000 rivets used in the construction of the Tower were inserted directly on site as preassembled and riveted pieces were built off site.
The o2 sensors on the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT are found screwed into the exhaust pipe. There are 2 of these on the 2002 Grand Am GT.
The upstream sensor is screwed into the exhaust manifold behind the engine. The downstream is screwed into the pipe after the catalytic converter.
I don't know the specific location but it is screwed into the transmission somewhere.
They are screwed into the exhaust system / pipes. Unscrew them and replace.
Depends on the type what means I use to replace it CAST Iron/ BRASS / Antimony / PVC / SCREWED TYPE
