The radio has 2 holes on each side of it, one above the other. These holes are for the removal tools, 1 tool needed for each side. The removal tools consist of "U"-shaped rods with pointed tips. The tips are inserted into the holes about 1/2". Not too far, or you could damage the clips that hold the radio in place. Insert the tools until you hear a "click" from each hole. Once inserted properly, push slightly outward on the tools and use them as handles to pull out the radio. It's that simple!
Factory stereos in a 1998 Hyundai is held in place by a mounting bracket found inside the center console. Remove the center console to reach the mounting bracket. Loosen the mounting screws and pull the radio forward. Pull the radio harness from the cabin wire harness and remove the radio.

The 1998 Ford Ranger door panel has eight retaining clips. Pry outward on each retaining clip. Remove the two door handle screws.
That seems to be quite a common problem on the 1998 models , from what I have read it is caused by bad soldered connections inside the radio.
