How do you remove the factory stereo from a 1997 Chevy Cherokee?

I don't know that Chevy makes a vehicle called the Cherokee. Sure it's not a Jeep? FIRST YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE FACE OF YOUR dash IT JUST POPS OFF... THEN U CAN SEE THE RADIO JUST UNSCREW THEN PULL OUT THEN UNPLUG WIRE HARNESS.

Use a flathead screwdriver to take off the black plastic dash panel that surrounds the stereo and ac. After you get that off then use a socket wrench and unbolt the stock stereo and you'll have it out.

two screws on the dash cluster one by the lighter and two underneath the botom dash fro there you can see the mouting bracket for the dek remove the 3 bolts and the deck should slide out

There is a bracket in the rear/right hand side that has one bolt. You need an extension to reach it.

The easiest way to disable the 1998 Chevy Lumina factory alarm is to remove the factory alarm fuse. The factory alarm fuse can be found in the fuse box.

If yours is like mine then you will find a wiring diagram on top of the factory radio when you remove it from the dash. Simply match-up the wiring for the new stereo to the coresponding feeds listed on the wiring diagram that's on the factory radio

Could be the factory amp had more power than the aftermarket unit most are around 45-50 watts or so they clam. But I'm sure these are overrated as well.

Sometimes you have to cut the dash hole bigger. I suggest you take it to aomeone willing to tackle it.

I have a 2002 demo model, and its 60 watts per channel. peak power not rms.

to start off you have to pull off the dash trim around the raideo and the dash. once you do that their are 2 clips one on each side of the raideo you just push them down and pull and out comes the raideo.

Remove trim around radio carefull there might be screws on bottom side of dash when trim removed shoul be 4 bolts holding in radio undo those slide radio forward remove antenna wires and 3 plugs in back of stereo. also common for gm tape players to go out you can remove screwws and exchange tape player itself in radio with just screews no soldering
