My 01 1500 4x4 has 2 13/16" hex bolts. Spray with penetrating oil first and use a breaker bar with your 3/8 or 1/2" ratchet, those puppies require lots of leverage to break loos. I use an 18" piece of 3/4" (inside diameter) black steel pipe to slip over the ratchet handle.
