A three jaw puller is the proper tool. I have removed over 100 that way.
It takes a special puller to remove the balancer. Advance auto parts stores will loan it to you. It is called a harmonic balancer puller.
Last time I had to just use the puller in 2 stages, 1 to pull of the ring, 2nd to pull off the remaining portion of the harmonic balancer, and then I just went out and bought another balancer/pulley assembly to replace it. Couldn't figure out any other way to do it. Scratch my last answer, the AutoZone guy just told me a better way than what I did :) ... he says they have a special puller for harmonic balancers that will pull it off w/o stressing the outer ring. They loan it for a $15 deposit.
You will probably need to use a puller. There should be threaded holes on either side of the center hole. It needs to be the H type of puller, not one that grabs around the outside rim. That kind will pull the pulley apart.
The bearings are probably just stuck on the spindle, you might need a puller to help, hammering wont get it and will damage other things, it needs to be pulled off nice and slow.
No the crank does not have a thread as long asyou have taken out the bolt in the center of the pully it should move they can be very tight. try tapping round the edge of the pully as you apply pressure with the puller

Remove the third bolt !!
The first thing you want to do is take the front left tire off that's if you are standing in front of the car looking at it. This makes its easy to access the harmonic balancer, Next take off the accessory belt and the AC compressor belt. Now once you have done that you will see one big bolt in the center of the harmonic balancer, "You will need a special tool to hold the balancer in place so it doesn't move wile you loosen the bolt, or a good air impact will do the job just fine. Once the bolt is out grab the balancer both hands and wiggle it side to side wile pulling towards you to slide it off the crankshaft ......if you cant get it to budge you will have to buy a puller to get it the rest of the way off
