According to Chilton's car repair manual, the parking brake on the '96 achieva adjusts itself each time you put on the parking brake. When it does not work properly anymore, you have to change the entire cable. I have purchased a cable through my local GM parts dealer but have not yet put the cable on. It looks relative straight forward. A good Chilton's or Haynes repair manual tells alot. Martin Wilson (email@example.com)

I don't know about any 'free' manuals, but you can often find repair manuals at your local library. Another resource would be thrift stores and online used book sources such as Amazon.com. You might even put a want ad on a site like Craigslist. You never know what might pop up. --mark
The owners manual has a section on fuses, including pictures of the fuse box in the drivers area and the fuse box under the hood. The fuse box cover usually has a diagram on it. Aftermarket repair manuals ie. Hayne's Clymer's Mitchell's Auto repair manuals are available for about $15.00 Hope this helps. t

Check the oil sending unit first, if this turns out not to be the problem then you might have a bad oil pump. If this is the case you should invest in a repair manual for vehicles that carry your make and model and year of car I bought mine for about 20.00$. good luck.
It is about a 3 hour job. It would depend on the hourly charge of your local shop, plus the cost of the heater core. Which I think is around 30 bucks.
If your not familure with transmissions I would suggest taking to a trans repair shop. There is a diagnostic procedure you must perform to ensure it is a solenoid and not a wiring issue. If you are confident it is the solenoid they are located in the valve body which is inside the trans pan.

Haynes makes the book for this car that tells you some of how to remove the interior side panel of the door and the special tool to remove the inside door handle...then go from there to buy the handle kit at auto parts or at junkyard or wherever you can. its a tricky job so if you feel nervous you'd be better off having a friend that know or a good mechanic for between 40.00 and 60.00 to do it.
They are in the Haynes Repair Manual number 38031...
