Not nice to do. Hopefully you have (or know someone that has) small arms. You need to lay on your back on the driver's side floor, reach up through an opening under the dashboard beside the steering column, until you reach the headlight switch. On the top of the switch (in the middle of the switch) there will be a spring loaded button; hold it in, and pull the knob/shaft out of the headlight switch. To reinstall it, you need to do the same thing in reverse. Trust me - I'm on about my 4th headlight switch on my '89 Grand Marquis; I haven't found any other way to do it. Hope this helps.
