It should be fairly easy to remove the bed on your Ranger. I'm getting ready to remove the bed on one of my Rangers and put a flatbed on it. The bed has several long bolts that extend through mounts under the bed, through a cushion, and then the frame. They are easy to see from under the truck bed, and can be removed with a ratchet and socket wrench. It should have 6 or 8 bolts holding it on.
Also you will want to disconnect the filler tube for the gas tank. There is a flexible tube you can usually disconnect it at. Be careful for sparks when handling gas tank, and be sure to cover inlet tube to prevent debris from entering tank while you are working on it.
Depending on your year truck, you may have other things to disconnect, so best to get a repair manual for yours. Also good site for Ford Ranger modifications of all types is the site at the Related Links.
It may be more difficult to remove the bed than to drop the tank.
you must remove the bed its the only way
There should be about 8 bolts under the bed and the wiring harness
A 2005 Ford pickup bed is about 5.6 foot long. This is a normal size bed not a long bed.

IN THE FUEL TANK. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE OR SLIDE THE CARGO BED BACK TO GET IT OUT.
REMOVE THE BED OF THE TRUCK. YOU CAN GET TO THE BOLTS TO REMOVE THE TANK. 6 BOLTS AND UNPLUG THE WIREING HARNES.
It`s a Ford.
Last year of production for the Ford Ranger with the flareside bed was 2004.
Unplug light connector, remove 6 bolts into frame, remove 3 screws securing filler neck, remove gas cap, remove bolts to any braces around fenderwells and lift of with a few friends. You will probably need a special star socket for bed about a t50 I think. This is how you do a Ranger to get to the fuel pump, then you can slide it back over bumper, I think ALL trucks are basically the same.
