There are 2 screws on each side of the housing - take those out and the entire trim & door will slide off the base of the dash.

To remove the temperature control panel on a Windstar, first remove the audio unit and the ashtray or cup holder assembly. Disconnect the three electrical connectors on the control head and the four screws securing the control head.
just pull the ashtray all the way out and remove the screws on the sides.
To get to the ashtray bulb on a 1997 Z71, the console top needs to be removed. First remove the ashtray from its holder. Then, remove the clips on the sides holding the console top on.

If the cupholder on the 2002 Windstar is the same as the 2001 then there is a small plastic clip on the top of the cupholder that locks in a groove when the cupholder is in the out position. Remove ashtray if equipped, push cup holder in slightly and hold down on the plastic lever at the rear left side of ashtray slot while pulling out the cup holder. Least that's how to remove it on a 1999 T&C Limited.
Remove original ashtray, remove 4 screws that hold ashtray mounting bracket. This will give access to the 2 screws that hold inner end of cup holder. The cup holder must be pulled all the way out to get to screws. Remove screws, remove 2 screws in front face, cup holder will come right out. Installed updated cup holder in 20 minutes, start to finish!
