Pop the trunk and there should be 2 bols holding down the tail light but yours is older then mine you might have a hidden slot there like on my new celica there will be a plastic cover that will hide the guts of the taillight inside of the trunk and there you just pop the cover and you dont have to pull out the tail light its all right there untwist the bulb from the taillight replace the twist back in replace the cover or the hold down screws.

Yes, there are about 6 bolts on each side you have to remove, you do not have to remove the molding, just use the access panels, however you have to pull the center part out, (3000GT part) a bit to remove the tail light.
