Remove your battery. Remove the battery tray. Remove the air filter housing and air intake duct. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. Pull the starter away from the engine a bit. Detach the electrical connector from the starter solenoid. Remove the nut and disconnect the battery starter cable. Remove the starter and put in your new one.
everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the REFERENCE section...make copies of the right sections...good luck :)
the 3 bolts at the bottom
Disconnect the negativebattery terminal, starter is accessible from under the car passenger side, it bolts into the transmission with 3 bolts. Disconnect the wires from the starter, remove the bolts and reinstall new starter, reconnect wires.
YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE FIVE BOLTS ON THE REDUCTION GEAR COVER AND REMOVE THE GEARS AND WATCH OUT FOR THE SHIM WASHER AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE ROOM TO REMOVE THE STARTER. INSTALL IN REVERSE ORDER.
Remove the belt from your 1985 Nissan 300 alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. The alternator will come off.
This is a real pain but you have to remove the Intake Manifold to get to the starter. You dont have to remove it all the way but disconnect it enough to have room to get to the 2 bolts of the starter. It will take you at least 2-3 hrs to do everything but trust me, you will save about $300 if you do it than taking it to the shop.
