You can remove the old serpentine belt on your 2004 Dodge Ram by loosening the tensioner pulley. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten it with the tensioner pulley.
Remove the inside door panel. Loosen the tensioner pulley. The belt line will become loose and can be removed. Reverse the process to install the new belt line.
First off, there is no such thing as a 1991 2500, perhaps you mean a W-250 (4x4)? Anyway, depending which engine is installed, you first relieve the tension on the tensioner, when you do this make sure that you have fully inserted the 3/8ths square drive breaker bar, or the dedicated tensioner tool that you may purchase at any auto parts store. Hold the tensioner off the belt as you slip the belt from one of the pulleys, then slowly relax the tensioner until you can remove your tool. Then, remove the belt, first notingits proper routing. Most vehicles have a belt routing diagrahm, but if yours is missing, you should first sketch one for yourself, as it's easy to misroute the belt. Once your down to the last pulley, place the tool back on the tensioner and move it over enough to slip the belt back onto the last pulley. It doesn't matter which pulley you save for last, you'll figure out which one is easiest on the engine that your working on.
The tensioner is a moving part and can wear out like any other mechanical part, however, there is one bolt in the front of the tensioner pulley (15mm) that holds the tensioner in pace. Make sure that it is tight, no play in the part. There really is no "tightening" of the belt because that is the tensioner's job. If your belt is loose or squeaking you may want to replace the part. That is what I am doing. I have a 2004 Ram 2500 4x4 w/ 5.7L HEMI and am replacing the tensioner. There are 80K miles on the rig and I maintain it meticulously. Troubleshooting the consistent squeaking after the belt r&r I decided it is the tensioner and my mechanic conferred. Oreilly's has the OEM part for $45 (DODGE HOUSE IS $75.00) and it will take 20 minutes to change the tensioner and reinstall the new belt.
remove pulley - you need a power steering pulley puller and installer for ford - unbolt pressure feed line and bolts holding pump to bracket. Remove clip or clamp holding return line. Install new pump
I believe they are welded in. Has to be cut out and the new one welded back in.
try using your teeth, if that dont work a hammer and chisel should take care of it.
The belt has an automatic spring tensioner and can not be "tightened".
$2500 I'd say about that
