yes, a friend of mine put a 4.0 in an 83 ranger 4x4. make sure you have ecu and harness if the 4.0 is fuel injected.

Take off the hose clamps under the hood on the passenger side (the only 2 hoses that are like a few inches apart on the fire wall). remove the glove box door, and the heater core cover. out with the old, in with the new!
83 to 92 regular cab should interchange (rubber gasket ) early supercabs bolts in as do later regular cabs
