I just finished doing this several minutes ago. When I did a Google search for how to do it prior to the job I ran across some forums where "experts" said the bulbs in the assembly cannot be replaced and you have to purchase a whole new unit. Not true. I'm assuming you want to remove the lens to replace one or both bulbs. Here's how.

First, this is the procedure for the third brake light that is mounted on the deck lid spoiler of a 2002 Cavalier. You do not remove the lens. Although there are two screws that look like they hold it in place there is no need to remove those two screws. It won't help you to remove them.

You have to remove the entire spoiler to get to the bulb sockets. Yes, I know you didn't want to hear that but it's not that difficult. There are 3 nuts and 4 screws that attach the spoiler to the trunk lid. Use a 10mm socket to remove them. Open the trunk lid all the way so you can get to them easily. After you slightly loosen the first nut or screw close the lid as far as you can while still being able to turn it. Do this so that it will not fall down inside the trunk lid cavity. If it falls when the trunk lid is level it should just fall right out the hole.

After you have removed all nuts and screws pull the spoiler up enough so you can get to the bulb socket. Be careful not to scratch the trunk lid paint with the metal studs sticking out of the spoiler. Twist the bulb socket about 1/4 turn and it will come out. Now you can pull the old bulb straight out and insert a new one. The bulbs I used are Sylvania 912 LL.

Reverse the procedure to put everything back together. Remember to keep the trunk lid level while you get the screws and nuts started so that they won't get lost in the trunk lid if they fall.
