I assume you mean the coil assembly/ICM cover. Remove the 4 bolts that are on the very top of the cover,unplug the ICM wire harness plug,lift strait up.You may have to wiggle it to unseat it from the spark plugs.

The ignition control module is located under the electronic ignition control module cover. On a 1997 2.4L cavalier, it will have the words 2.4L twin cam stamped on it. It is on the top of the engine and is held in place with four bolts. This cover must be removed to get to the spark plugs.
It could be bad spark plugs. try changing your plugs.
The timing chain cover IS the oil pump. You need to remove the dampener pulley (that's the pulley that drives the serpentine belt) then you can remove the timing chain cover/oil pump.

You must have the 2.4L Twin Cam... IT DONT HAVE SPARK PLUGS!!!! aw,just kidding...Right on top where it says "2.4L TWIN CAM" you will see 4 bolts,remove those 4 bolts and unplug that cover, then lift it strait up. That cover holds the coil assembly. It has a COP system (Coil Over Plug) The coils(2) are connected strait directly to the spark plugs via rubber boots and springs. Hence...no plug wires....
