Partitions should be removed using a partition manager.

If you have a Ubuntu live CD, then you can run partition editor from there. If you don't, then you should install a partition editor in your main operating system.

How do you completely remove Ubuntu 11.04 from a MacBook?

When an operating system such as Ubunto is installed on a Mac, a disk partition is created on a hard drive. Then the OS is written to the partition, and shows up as a start up drive when the Option key is pressed during start up.To remove Ubuntu, just remove the partition from the hard drive. This is done using the Disk Utility application.NOTE! Everything you created using Ubuntu, including pictures and documents, may also reside in that partition. When you remove the partition, you will also lose all the documents you made which are in the partition. So, if you have items that you want to keep, move or copy them to other places on other hard drive partitions. Then you can delete the partition with Ubuntu on it.Open Disk Utility.Take care! this is a powerful application which can delete partitions which are necessary to the Mac, and if you delete them, your Mac may not work until you start up from a DVD with a boot-able system on it and reinstall a working OS. Don't erase the hard drive or partition. You want to change the partitions. You will see the list of hard drives and partitions on the left. Select the Hard drive that has the Ubuntu partition listed underneath. Click "Partition" in the top of the right window. You will see the partitions and how much space they are using on the hard drive. There is a line between the partitions, like a window shade.Click inside the Ubuntu partition.Be sure that you have clicked only on the Ubuntu partition!See the + and - under the window?Click the - sign. The partition will be deleted, and its disk space will be made available to the other partitions on the hard drive. This can not be undone. Be sure that you want to do this.If you delete the partitions with operating systems on them, you will have to get an install DVD and install a working OS before your computer will start up.

Is is possible to install Linux Ubuntu with Windows XP in a separate partition?

Yes. By booting from the Live CD and selecting "Install alongside another operating system", Ubuntu will automatically create a new partition if there is a sufficient empty space in the HDD. Otherwise, the Partitions Manager will prompt you to select the size of the new Linux partition to remove from the original OS.

Can ubuntu be replaced by windows?

Is there a solution to have a Windows7 hard drive and a Ubuntu hard drive both working in the same desktop?

You can do this very simply using partitions. If you haven't installed Ubuntu yet, Follow the installation instructions and click "Run alongside Windows 7" when prompted. If you already have Ubuntu installed, then it's probably already partitioned.

Does installing ubuntu remove windows?

No. After download and burn the Ubuntu 10.10 install disk, you can either TRY Ubuntu without affecting your Windows at all, or INSTALL Ubuntu to have them both in your PC. However, to install Ubuntu, you need to be careful. Make sure not to install Ubuntu to the Windows drive. That is all.

How do you change the allowed space for Ubuntu?

When you first install, you will be presented with a choice on how you want to partition. The options, if you have Windows, are to automatically resize Windows and use the space freed for Ubuntu, format the entire drive automatically, or choose how you want the partitions set up (manual). Under the resize option, there will be a slider to give more or less space to Ubuntu and less to Windows. After you've installed Linux, you can change the partitions either by using the manual option in the installer, or using another Linux LiveCD designed for this purpose, like GParted.

How to remove Ubuntu wubi?

If you are currently dual-booting...Note: When a computer is dual-booted, the user selects an operating system at start-up.Rather than being loaded into one automatically. You have to format the partition that you installed Ubuntu on, you can use free software to help you do this. When the partition has been formatted, extend the free space to your main partition (most commonly the "C:" drive). If you use Ubuntu stand-alone...You will have to re-format the drive you installed Ubuntu on.If you have a factory recovery disk, you may use this to re-install Windows, or any other operating system.NOTE: Re-formatting will erase all files and settings, so you should back-up all important documents before starting this process.

Can you reinstall windows7 after installing ubuntu?

Yes, Windows 7 will overwrite the partition used by Ubuntu. In dual-booting, were two operating systems share the hard-drive (in separate partitions), you have a choice of either OS on boot-up. The recommended method is to install Windows first, then Ubuntu. Otherwise, if Windows is installed second it greedily takes over automatically at boot-up.

How do you delete Ubuntu from your hard drive without deleting Vista. I need to delete the partition that Ubuntu sits on and uninstall Ubuntu so I can reinstall it and set it up right this time.?

You can remove the partition safely using a tool such as a gparted live cd. You need to burn the image to a CD-rom, boot from that, and remove the partition Ubuntu is installed to. Note: If you installed GRUB to the Master Boot Record of your hard disk, removing the Ubuntu partition could cause booting complications. These should be fixed upon reinstallation of Ubuntu.
