To remove a water pump from a 1998 Ford Windstar 3.0, you will need a tool called a tensioner. Disconnect the radiator and water hoses, then remove the water pump assembly.

To replace the water pump on a 1993 Ford Explorer, disconnect the battery and loosen the belt tension pulley. Remove the belt on the water pump. Disconnect the radiator hose from the pump and remove the bolts holding the pump. Remove the old pump and gasket. Clean the surface of the water pump mount with a gasket cleaner. Insert gasket sealer, new gasket, and pump. Reconnect radiator hose, belt, and tighten tension pulley. Reconnect the battery. Refill radiator with antifreeze.
Unless there is an access panel in the trunk, which is doubtful, you will have to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle to access the pump.
Drain antifreeze. Jack Passenger side of car up. remove wheel well skirt. loosen pulley bolts on water pump before removing serpentine belt. loosen a/c compressor and slide forward about an inch. remove pulley from water pump. remove 4 bolts holding water pump in. remove water pump. reverse sequence to put new in.
Drain the water from the cooling system. Remove the water hose from the water pump. Remove the belt from the water pump. Remove the water pump retaining bolts.
Drain the water from the cooling system. Remove the water hose from the water pump. Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Remove the water pump. Reverse the process to install the new water pump.

after you remove the fan and fan hood remove the belt and the alternator. you then remove the 6mil bolts and your water pump should come free from the timing chain cover.
