I have been to a local shop for the same problem on my 2003 silverado. It is a worn out sensor, it will have to be replaced. In my case I replaced the seat and seatbelt catch and all the sensors from a wreaked 04 silverado.

Where is the air bag sensor on chevy 2003 S-10?
The air bag module on a 2005 Chevy Cavalier is located under the passenger side seat. The sensor for the airbag is usually located close to the hood latch.
They are up in the front of the truck behind the bumber. Any electrical connector that is YELLOW on the end will be a air bag senser.
Disconnect battery (very important!!!) There are bolts/screws that hold air bag to steering wheel. They screw into rear of steering wheel. Just unbolt, remove and disconnect electric conector.

Yes, but you better not ever let anyone else drive the truck. If you do and they have an accident, they can sue you for any injury they may receive because the air bag was removed. Also you better not try and sell this vehicle with the air bag removed as that is illegal. Lastly if you have an accident and are injured then your insurance may very well refuse to pay for your injuries because you removed the air bag. Your insurance will also go up if they find out you removed the air bag. My advice it to forget this and leave the OEM steering wheel in place. Way too many bad things can come from removing it.
