This engine does not have your typical screw on style filter. It is just a cartridge. If you look on the drivers side of the intake manifold you will see a black cap with a big hex on the top of it. That is where the filter is. Remove that cap and replace the filter. This is for the oil filter!!!!!!
P0171 and P0174 (mixture too lean) is a known design fault. Excessive oil is pulled into the air intake plenum above the engine from the PCV tube, and the accumulated oil causes the seals on the isolator bolts holding the plenum onto the intake manifold to fail and leak. The solution is to replace the isolator bolts (current ones have improved seals), intake/plenum gaskets, and possibly some other vacuum hoses. See Ford TSB 03-16-1. It seems as though your Idle Air Controller isn't responding fast enough. If this isn't working correctly then it can cause the other two codes. See "Related Questions" below for more on the isolator bolts problems, and more importantly, the fix.
Carb flames are causes by a variety of things. most often the engine is advanced to far or you have a carb leak interally that puts to much fuel in the engine. If the engine has high miles the intake valves may be leaking allow the flame to escape around it.
Bad echaust manifold or header gasket. Or loose header or manifold gasket.. if its just a loose bolt the gasket will eventually crack or break from pressure.the popping sound is high pressure leaking past the gasket Bad echaust manifold or header gasket. Before starting to repair the air intake system the battery should be disconnected. Once you have replaced it, then verify there are no holes in the intake tube, check for blockage or an excess water.
Intake manifold is leaking, or worse, cracked cylinder most likely tho, the intake manifold.
replace the leaking intake gasket...?????????????need more info replace the leaking intake gasket...?????????????need more info --------------------------- The '00-'02 SOHC s-series have been notorios for leakin intake manifold gaskets. Symptoms include a SES code P0301 -304 (misfire codes) along with rough and high idles. A simple test will show if this is the problem. Using brake cleaner with the car on, spray around the gasket at each cylinder. if the idle changes then you have found your issue. FOr a how-to procedure with pictures email/message me.
The Intake gasket is leaking, NOT THE HEAD GASKET. Replace the intake gasket
usually a intake gasket leaking antifreze into cylinder
What's under the intake is not a hose, it's a pipe which a hose attaches to behind the intake manifold near the firewall. If the hose is leaking, it's a relatively easy task to replace it. If the pipe is leaking, you will have to remove the intake manifold which is not an easy task (minimum 6 hours to remove and replace the manifold!)
The intake manifold is leaking from the water jacket. That is a common problem on V8 and V6 engines over a period of time. That is the only thing that can leak water back there. There are 4 water jackets in the intake, 1 on each corner of the intake front and back. Hope I helped. NEED TO REPLACE INTAKE GASKET
I just had the intake manifold gasket replaced on my 96 century yesterday and my bill was $450 but my gasket was only leaking out. If its leaking into your oil it may be more.
replace the intake manifold gaskets they have know conditions of leaking
you need to replace the intake manifold gasket.
Remove carburator then intake manifold then cylinder heads
Probably just a leaking intake gasket. When it's surging, try pressing downward (with most of your bodyweight) on the intake. If it settles out you need to replace the intake gasket.
Yes. My 2000 Saturn had a leaking intake gasket, idle about 1900. Also caused misfire in idle and extreme acceleration. Test for leak using brake cleaner on suspected leak. I replaced gasket and all problems fixed.
