I'm working on a 93 Ford Explorer LR window motor. Not sure if it's different from a 91, but some of this will apply for sure. I didn't know how it came out or worked, so I went to a do-it-yourself junk yard a pulled out several motors. I showed no mercy, but I was able to figure out how to remove the motor only and not the cable mechinism, which I just cut on the first one. Now I can get mine out without screwing it up. Three rivets have to be drilled or chisled off to release the motor bracket. After removing the motor assembly from the cable drive (three square drive screws), the motor comes out by itself. One Torx head screw holds a cover on the worm driven gear. That's where the trouble is on all of them. There are bushing kits on eBay ($3 - $4) to repair these things. I haven't tried one yet, but I'm headed in that direction. I don't know if the front windows have the same parts, but going to a junk yard first and breaking their stuff is a good learning tool. Costs 2 bucks to get in here in So Calif. The whole motor/worm-drive needs to be taken apart to clean out the old broken pieces. That includes the permanent magnet motor housing. Be careful of the brushes in there.
First test to see if the problem is the switch, wiring, or the motor. You cannot manually close a power window. You must repair the problem causing it not to work. Check the fuse, power window switch, and if they are good, you may need a new motor.
