How do you repair the fuel door release for a 1999 Toyota Camry LE?

I'm assuming that you need two people in order to get gas right? One person to pull the cord and another to pull open the lid. well that's the same problem I had, and what you need is the latch release. It's a black piece with a little metal piece on it that acts like a spring to open the door. I got the same problem on LE'99. In my case it was the spring broken. Then I replaced the fuel door spring with Toyota part# 77360-33020. It cost less then $7 and took 2 minutes to replaced myself. The fuel door release is called a "fuel door spring" for 5.95 at a Toyota dealer. You do not need two people to open the gas door. You just need to put something under the release lever to keep it from sliding down. This keeps the rivot pin in the gas door in an open position so you can just use your finger to open it.
