How do you repair the hood release on a 1991 corvette cable is intact the plastic pull is out of it socket?

Pull the lower dash panel to get access to the lever better. Tough to do but I layed on the floorboard, looking up, and slid the cable end back into the lever. I then tie-wrapped both cables (L & R hood release) together to prevent one of them from shifting around and coming back out.
