If the 4.6L is like the 302 then you will have to unhook the engine mounts and jack the engine up by the crank pulley as far as it will go. The pan slides out the rear or front, whichever has the clearance. The oil pump will probably need to be unbolted also and dropped with the pan. The top side will have to almost pin up against the firewall in order to gain enough room to pull the pan out. It's a real treat to do.
