If you take out the battery tray and turn it over, you will find the Battery Temperature Sensor. Just found out this was the reason my check engine light stayed on. One of the wires was exposed and discharging to the frame of the Jeep.
Disconnect the battery negative first, then disconnect the positive. Look at the base of the battery for bolts... you'll have to remove these to unbolt the battery from the bracket. Once this is done, pull up and the battery should come out. Place the new battery. Reinstall the brackets. Reconnect the positive first then the negative.

it depends on which battery you want and to put it in it cost nothing just a lil manual labor taking two cables off and taking the other battery out and put the new one in and put the cables back on

I have a 99 wrangler and have had problems with the wires shorting out or corroding under the box. I had to remove the box and replace some wires, the fuses in the box did not blow.

To change the positive battery cable on a 1988 Jeep Cherokee trace the end of the cable to the starter. Unplug the battery then remove the cable from the starter. Measure the old positive cable with the new and be sure to replace the unit at the right size.
