To replace the starter on a 1996 Nissan 200SX SE-R, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Then, locate the starter, which is typically found on the lower part of the engine near the transmission. Remove the mounting bolts and electrical connections from the old starter, then install the new starter by reversing the process. Finally, reconnect the battery terminal and test the starter to ensure proper function.
The cost to adjust or replace the timing chain on a Nissan 200SX SER typically ranges from $500 to $1,500, depending on the labor rates in your area and whether any additional repairs are needed. Timing chain adjustments are less common than replacements, as the chains often last the lifetime of the engine. It's advisable to consult a mechanic for an accurate estimate based on your vehicle's condition. Regular maintenance can also help prevent costly repairs in the future.
For a 1995 Nissan 200SX SE-R, the torque specifications for the flywheel bolts are typically around 60-70 lb-ft (81-95 Nm). For the clutch plate, the pressure plate bolts should be torqued to approximately 12-15 lb-ft (16-20 Nm). Always refer to a repair manual for your specific vehicle for the most accurate information, as values can vary slightly based on the specific engine and transmission combination.

The owners manual for my 1995 200 SX SE-R indicates that timing "chain" does not need replacement. Unlike timing "belts" found on many cars which likely require replacement at 60,000 or 100,000 miles.
I have had the timing belt go bad and the front axles. Other than that mostly have just put maintenence into the car. There is however a recall for windshield wipers and I did have those go bad but Nissan replaced them for free.
Replacing struts can in some instances be a dangerous job if you don't have the proper tools or skills. Purchase a repair manual at most auto parts stores and then decide if you wish to tackle this job.
