If you're having trouble releasing the rear light cluster, you probably haven't found the big plastic wing nut on the inside. It isn't obvious and I had to ask someone! Get your hand right in there and unscrew it. Are there two screws as well on this model? If there are, remember that they will be T25 Torx headed. Don't try to get 'em out with a Pozidrive!
To replace your brake light, you need to unscrew the brake cover from the inside of the trunk. Then you will be able to pull the old bulb out and replace it.

There is a campaign on the brake bulbs for 2000-2003......If it hasn't been done you should get it done. The bulbs and sockets will be replaced.
they are two different lights. replace the light that is malfunctioning, but check the fuses first. It's the cheapest way out.
High-Level brake lamp bulb change. Open the hatch back. Remove the two rubber grommets behind the stop lamp. Insert the flat blade of a screwdriver into each hole and press down the spring clip. The light unit will pop out of its seat. Close the hatch and change the 16W wedge fitting bulb. Click the light unit back into place and replace the two rubber grommets. Easy when you know how!

locate the fuse box under dash and look for brake lights replace with the right amp fuse. the fuse you pull out will have a number on it that is the apms fuse you will need to replace
