Mounted on top and inside the fuel tank.
Unless there is an acess panel above the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to gain access to the pump.
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and the fuel tank will have to be removed to access it. If you do not have the skill or equipment to do this properly, I suggest taking it to a shop.

As with alot of modern vehicles, the fuel pump on a 1990 Corolla is located on a tube stem inserted into the top of the fuel tank which also doubles as an inspection panel access to the tank. The fuel level float gauge is also mounted on this tube assembly. You have to siphon the tank empty (due to the weight of the fuel) and then take the tank off the car to replace the pump. Most cars do not have access panels in the trunk to get to the top of the tank. Be sure to get a new seen (screen) for the pump as most of them tear upon attempting to transfer them over to the new pump and they are almost always sold separately at parts stores.
The exact location of the fuel pump in your Toyota Corolla is dependent upon the year of the Corolla. Most model year Toyota Corolla fuel pumps were mounted on the front side of the gas tank.
It is inside the fuel tank, you have to drop the tank, and remove the sending unit, from the tank to replace the fuel pump.
