It should be for the rear wiper or rear defroster. I have a 1992 (no power switch), but on the left side of my column are the fog light and rear defrost switches, and on the right is the rear wiper switch.
what are the colors of the wires for the rear window defroster coming from the rear window to the defroster bottom ? can any body help me
replace the switch... there is a spring steel L shaped clip that goes around a V shaped slide and that plastic slide breaks on them... i have the same problem and looking for a used switch cause the ford dealers want $112.00(can) for a new one. I suggest buying any toggle/push-button switch and rewire it (as the ford switch will break again). A new switch from Radio Shack (or equivalent) is easy to install and will only cost you just $5. Here's the wiring info for your convenience: (The stock Ford switch is a 5 terminal switch) Red & black stripe - Hot for illuminating LED Black - Ground for illuminating LED Red - goes to dimming rheostat Black & White stripe - Hot "for" Rear Defroster Black & Blue stripe - Wire "to" Rear Defroster

One of three things usually fails on a rear defroster. The switch can fail (it should have a light within the switch which should be illuminated when turned on). The tabs can break off the rear glass. Or the lines have "worn" off the glass. Both of these should be able to be repaired by a glass company for a small expense.
There is a switch on the dashboard to turn on the rear window defroster (also called a rear window defogger in areas that don't have frost). If you cannot locate the switch, take the vehicle to a local dealer of that product, and someone will be happy to show you where the switch is located. If you locate the switch and the defroster will not work, there is likely a blown fuse or faulty wiring, in which case your local dealer will be even happier to repair it for you - for an appropriate fee.
If it's factory installed...it's for the rear window defroster.
