it's pretty easy. fallow the coolant tubes that lead into the drivers side of your engine. you will see a metal "goose neck". there is two tubes coming into it. there are two bolts that hold it in. just remove the two bolts and there is you thermostat.
make sure to have a pan under the engine. there will be a pretty good amount of coolant that comes out. if you have a way to screen it then you can put it back in. just open the cap of the reservoir and poor it in. if you cant fit it all then warm up the car so it cycles the coolant and you'll have room for the rest. good luck!

Underneath the top radiator hose where is goes into the top of the engine.
You need to replace the thermostat, be sure to use the same temp as the factory thermostat.
My 97 4.0 Ranger's thermostat is in the front of the engine. I has two bolts you have to take off. I had to replace the gasket. Leaked when I got on it hard. It's called the "thermostat housing. Thermostat is easy to replace. Great engine.

Follow the upper radiator hose, where it goes into the housing on the engine, sometimes, you have to remove the water pump on these critters to replace the thermostat.
Replace it.

Drain the radiator. Disconnect the top radiator hose at the engine. Remove the hose inlet, which hoses the thermostat. Remove the thermostat, replace it then reverse the process to finish the job.
