It's underneath below the crank pulley. It is shaped kinda' like a dog bone. Just remove the two bolts (one on each end). Just pry it out and put the replacement part in it's place. It's purposes is to keep the engine from rolling when you give it gas to move forward or reverse. It's a very simple job...so don't be nervous.
There is one on the front passenger side and a torque strut on the front. The torque strut acts like a motor mount.
4 - Right lower bottom rear and Right upper front, Transmission mount and Torque mount
I have a 2000 cavalier automatic and my motor and tranny are doing the same thing, try replacing your transmission mount and your torque strut motor mount. also check to see if you have the correct amount of fluid in your transmission... if neither of that hepls, then you probably have to replace your transaxle or torque converter. it could be so many things a really couldn't tell you exactly where to start..
Some people call it the "Dogbone" mount. Because that is what it resembles. It is located underneath the engine on the passenger side. It prevents the engine from spinning around when you give it gas and go.Simply remove the 2 bolts (15mm i belive) that mount it,knock it out with a hammer or pry it out with a screw driver(your choice), put in the new mount, put the two bolts back in and go...simple.
Purchase your replacement part. Put a jack under the engine with a board to support the engine. Put slight pressure on the engine but no more. Remove the mount and replace. Lower jack.
You've got 4 mounts total. A transmission mount, then on the other side of the motor, you've got a mount that goes to the middle of the engine that is in the fender, and upper torque strut and a lower torque strut on that same side.
the torque mount is usually on the bottom front of the engine and it keeps the engine from shifting to much when switching gears
The 1997 Cavalier has two motor mounts, as well as a transmission mount. If the mounts are broken the motor can move around and cause damage to components under the hood.
For a 99 cavalier 2.2 there are 2 mounts. The upper mount near antifreeze recovery bottle and one (dog bone) mount directly under the other, in front of oil pan. 1- transmission mount.
Remove the old mount & replace with the new.
The mount is located on the drivers side of the vehicle. remove wheel and plastic cover to access.
