Filter is internal and does not need service. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the trans. case for fluid drain. Refill thru dipstick tube.
It is actually inside the transmission itself. You get to it be removing the transmission pan.
im wandering where the transmission filter is on my 1996 mystique with a 4 cylinder.the filter has to go inside somewhere but not sure.if this is free it would be a huge help.perry
There is no Transmission filter on this car, it is a self cleaning Transmission, the small dirt goes into a drum and spins so it never gets into the Transmission, it can be cleaned by a Transmission man, Lonney Wade.

The oil filter on a 1998 Mercury Mystique is changed by lifting the vehicle up on ramps, placing a drain pan under the filter, and unscrewing it. A new filter is then put in place and torqued down.
1995 Mystique automatic 4 cylinder probably has a Ford CD4E transmission with an internal filter that cannot be changed without a major disassembly of the trans. which makes it impractical if not impossible for a home mechanic or fast lube shop to do. Either get your transmission rebuilt or replaced while you have it out and save yourself some grief.

The easy way is to go to a marine supply house and purchase an engine oil suction pump. The hard way is to drop the transmission oil pan. If you do this you can change the minimal filter that is present. This is not recommended unless you have a lift and the proper tools including a transmission drain pan.
right behind the air filter toward the engine
The filter is actaully located inside of the transmission itself.....you would have to remove the transmission and tear it apart to get to the filter
Inside the transmission. Pan must be removed to access the filter.
