The 3800 engine is apush rod engine and does not use a timing bet but instead has a timing chain under the front cover much like you would find on a typical V8 engine. to get to the chain your going to have to remove the vibration dampener the water pump and any idlers and belt tensioner's from the area around the timing cover. then you should back able to get to it and replace the whole chain and sprocket assembly. the whole thing is in a tight space and your going to have keep track of all the parts you take out so they go back where they came from. a novice should probably not attempt this without help for the first time.
