The process involves evacuation and storage of refrigerant in the system. I'd recommend you have a professional do this. Bear in mind also that when you open up the system and expose it to ambient air, your vehicle has either an accumulator (if it's a fixed orifice tube system) or a receiver-drier (if it's a thermal expansion valve system) which will have to be replaced, as well, as those components contain a desiccant which ensures that only refrigerant in vapor form travels onward to the compressor. This desiccant will become fully saturated within a few minutes of exposure to ambient air, and will no longer be effective. Also, before you unseal your accumulator or receiver-drier, you're going to have to pull a vacuum on your system.
Unless you have a spring compressor dont try. If you dismantle it without the proper equipment, or dont know what you are doing that spring could take your head off.
