The 2006 Subaru Legacy came equipped in naturally aspirated and a turbocharged 2.5L H4 engines. The Legacy does not have a standard in-line fuel filter. The fuel pump assembly however has an integrated strainer, which is not serviceable unless the unit is fails.

4.2 w/ filter
The fuel filter is found inside of the fuel tank. It's hard to reach it. On earlier subarus, the fuel filter was found in front of the brake master cylinder.
10 minutes or less
I found no mention of a power steering filter in the owner's manual or in the service manual for Outback.
See your user manual, its great for help with all the basic maintenance
Yes, at the age of this vehicle you probably should.
it's behind the glove box in a slot by the blower motor. Not the easiest to get to.
The 2000 Subaru Legacy Sedan came standard equipment with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. The service fill engine oil capacity with filter is 6.9 quarts. The recommended viscosity for all season use in this application is European spec 5W40.

I have a 1995 legacy and I just changed my transmission filter. I also have the 2.2 engine. The filter is located under the car and inside the box that the plug for the transmission fluid is located. It has exactly 20 screws to take the bottom of the box off to get to the filter. Be sure to drain the transmission fluid before you take the screws off.
The filter is in the fuel tank , and accessed thru a panel under the rear seats. They last at least 100,000 mi.
Not sure what type you have but, I have a DL station wagon and the fuel filter is located under the hood on the drivers side by the strut tower.
try changing your air filter . I had the same problem on my 94 legacy . filter about 12 bucks
I have a 1999 Legacy SUS and my dipstick is located on the driver side of the vehicle directly below some vaccum lines. It is just a few inches from the firewall and you can see the transmission filter clearly. The dipstick's tube enters the transmission right next to the filter.
yes it does. It is a little hard to take out. If you have had this car for sometime and the cabin filter has not been changed it is probably very clogged up. If you are reasonably handy I would recommend going to your local Subaru parts dealer and buying a new filter. It comes with instructions on how to replace it
