You have to remove the front right tire, and go up through the inside of the fender. A lot of work just to remove an antenna! I just did this on my 1999 Montero Sport. Once you remove the back of the fender, you just remove a few nuts from the antenna mount, unplug the power supply, unplug the antenna from the radio and pull the antenna cable out. You can save some time with a short screw driver and don't remove the tire, just the bottom of the fender (and flares). For mounting purposes is best if you use the original part. Before you remove the cable from the inside (if the antenna is not good) cut the cable and use it to pull the new antenna's one. Trust me the hardest part is getting that cable in. Need lots of patience and about 2 hours.. Check out this site for step by step instructions....with pictures....to replace your electric antenna..... http://www.monterosportonline.com/diy-ext6.html

1: Remove all of the temperature control knobs, including the A/C button (95-00 models).
Using a small hook or a flat-head screwdriver, carefully pull the control panel straight out. It will pop out with a slight tug.
2: Remove two Phillips head screws from behind temperature control panel. 3: Remove ashtray and remove the Phillips head screw on upper right side 4: Carefully remove center black dash molding. This can be easily done by grabbing the plastic between the vents and the temperature controls and pulling toward you and slightly down. It will pop out with a slight tug. 5: Disconnect the air bag harness, if applicable.
At this point, you have access to the stereo receiver. The stereo brackets are attached using 4 10mm bolts. These bolts also have a Phillips head, but it is recommended that you use a 10mm socket to remove them.

TAKE A CRESCENT WRENCH OR OPEN END WRENCH AND UNSCREW IT - THERE SHOULD BE FLAT SPOTS AT THE BASE
Pry the plastic cover off the base, unscrew the three Phillips head screws, reach under the fender to unplug the coax. Plug in the new antenna, screw in the base, and snap on the new cover.
not on the front face of the stereo, but there is one in the back of it but you have to get an adapter cord for the back to a ipod
