The short answer... take it to the dealer.
Just spent the better part of 2 hours trying to remove the oil pan. You can access all but two bolts that are hidden up under the bell housing. I've tried every combination of 10mm socket with pivot connections, even tried a 5mm ball-ended Allen wrench in the head... just can't get access. Giving up... DONE!
The 2002 maxima has a problem with the oil pan rusting out. Replace the oil pan and gasket and it should be good to go

remove the plug in oil pan, drain the oil from the oil pan, re-place the plug. remove/drain the old filter, replace with a new filter, add oil.

The oil pan drain plug is located on the oil pan.
The oil pump is located in the oil pan. Disconnect the battery. Remove the starter. Unbolt the sub frame and remove. The pan can now be dropped giving access to the oil pump.
You never need to replace an oil pan unless it has been damaged and is leaking.
