To replace the lower control arms on a 1994 Acura Integra safely raise and stabilize the car. Remove the lower ball joints and two bolts that hold the lower control arms to the car. Pull them off. Replace with a new unit.
I got a quote for $1300 to replace the bushings on both sides on my 1993 S15. Its very involved to get the control arms off and then the bushings have to be removed and installed with a machine press. It turned out to be cheaper to replace the control arms myself for $250 in parts.
Let a professional do this job. Not an easy do-it-yourselfer job.
My Haynes repair manual ( 1991 thru 2001 Ford Explorer ) shows on 1995 and newer that the balljoints on upper and lower control arms are not removable or serviceable . If a balljoint is damaged or worn , replace the control arm . ( my Chilton repair manual also shows the same information )
They need to be pressed out with a press and reinstalled the same way. But you're probably better off getting new control arms because they are relatively inexpensive compared to other vehicles and it comes with new bushings and ball joint. As of now (Oct 2009) you can find these replacement control arms for as little as $76 per side.
