Cylinders are numbered from the front, 1 through 4, and the wires go from top to bottom of cap, 2, 1, 3, 4.

Unplug all the spark plug wires. then loosen the screws holding the distributor on, remove it, put the new one on and screw it in, then replace the spark plug wires
there is no distributor on a 98 rav. therefore no cap or rotor. replace the plugs and wires and the tuneup is done
Replace the wires too. Using old wires on a new cap is not the best choice.
probabaly a bad distributor. replace distributor and wires and should be fine.

The distributor cap screws to the distributor. Buy a new set of wires and replace them one at a time to avoid mixing them up. The coil just unbolts.

If it has a distributor, then all the plug wires will merge at the distributor. Follow the wires.
Remove wires from old distributor and put on new one [one at a time, noting locations on distributor, or marking wires and locations]. Remove rotor [noting direction it is pointing] and replace with new one pointing in same direction].
