Light bulb is blown.... and it's such a pain to replace it. If your hands are growing from the right place, it's possible to do, otherwise just let it go. Let me know if you need directions on how to replace the bulb... if you decide to do it yourself :)
What is the bulb sizes

how to replace the light bulb on the gear shift on 2004 tracker
There is one illumination bulb to light up the gear shift indicator. Remove the center rear console, then the console around the shift lever, and you will see the wires on the left side that go to the bulb. Twist the small socket and it will come out, then just put in a new bulb.
pop off the cover using a small flat head screwdriver, slide it up the shifter an inch or two. you should be able to feel where the bulb slides in. pull bulb out and replace.
AnswerYou have to remove the gear shift plate, just pry carefully, (it's plastic) with a screwdriver. Remove the screws holding the shifter. Take the drive indicator out and the bulb is on the driver side. It's a tiny bulb. The bulb comes out by turning it to the left.Alternatively, you do not have to remove the gear shifter. Take a look at the following picture tutorial: http://automotive.trevorated.com
this is a breakdown of the dash http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/17/13/9a/0900823d8017139a.jsp
You must remove the instrument cluster to do so.
I am not sure---I have 2002 rx 300 nad one of the bulbs on the dash that lets you know what gear you are has burned out. That does not effect the operation of the vehicle, but is just annoying. The dealer want $250.00 to replace the bulb. No way will I pay-----this is a design flaw in the vehicle !
Check whether Stop lights works or not when you press the brake paddle. If not replace the Stop light fuse and the blow bulb.
Remove the cover of the console..around 4 screw ..then lift the cover ,you can see the small bulb on it..
