Usually on the lower end of the engine follow the + battery cable to the solenoid and then to the starter

no you do not have to remove the strut just take the lower control arm lose.
You can replace just the ball joints on the lower control arms , but the upper ball joints come with a new control arm

Currently it seems like you have no choice but to replace the complete arm, that is all I can find available.
You can't service the lower ball joints by themselves. You must replace the entire lower control arm.
