The ring and pinion gears in the drive axle gear box is a very precise installation. Special measuring devices are needed because clearances and torque settings must be closely adhered to. Not a backyard mechanic job.
how do you change front ring and pinion on 89 Toyota pickup
No, they are a matched machined set.
More then likey it has a 3:42 gears. But the way to know for sure is to COUNT the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear and then divide the pinion into the ring gear and that will tell you for sure.
It sounds like the pinion nut is not tight enough and the pinion is now moving in and out. This will do bad damage to ring and pinion. You will need to replace crush sleeve in rear end now.
43 ring gear 14 pinion
Count the # of teeth on the ring gear. Now count the # of teeth on the pinion gear. Now divide the small # into the big # and that will be your gear ratio.
count your teeth on your ring gear <big gear> and on you pinion <little gear> and the divide the ring gear teeth by the pinion
41 teeth on the ring gear, 10 on the pinion gear.
There is either a problem with the actuator in the front differential--BAD ACTUATOR. Are there is a problem with the differential ---RING and PINION asembley.
you need to drop the fuel tank, since this is where the pump is. once the tank is down you can see the lock ring. remove and remove pump. be sure to replace strainer too.
It is to transfer the power between the driveshaft and the wheels. The drive shaft drives the pinion, the pinion drives the ring gear, the ring gear drives the axle(s) and the axle(s) drives the wheels.
