There should be a routing diagram under the hood. If not, take a digital picture of it before removal. Pry the idler pulley back and the belt slips right off.
MORE INFORMATION NEEDEDWhat type of engine do you have? Number of cylinders, and Liters? 1998 ford e 150 van 8 cylinder 4.6lneed to find out the serpentine belt configuration
Follow the pullies and the grooved ones, pull the one with wrench the one with the spring to the left so it will be loose to get the belt on
You'll need to examine the alignment of all of the pulleys to see which one is misaligned, then figure out why. If your serpentine belt keeps coming off, check for. 1. Belt getting worn on the edges. Replace belt. 2. Pulleys coming loose. Tighten pulleys and re-install belt. 3. An accessory may have been replaced incorrectly, so that the belt does not track correctly.
Flush your radiator coolant and replace thermostat
Put a wrench on the idler pulley and turn cw . On my 99 e150 there is a decal/picture near the top of the radiator that shows how the belt runs. Maybe the dealer sells these decals or it is in a manual or try this page: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp
The alternator on a Ford E150 van is replaced by loosing the retaining bolts, removing the belt, disconnecting the wiring harness, and unbolting the alternator. A replacement alternator can then be put into place and reattached.
