You start by placing the vehicle on jack stands under the front frame section then remove the front tires then possiblly the brake calipers ,so the brake hoses do not get damaged from stretching thenunbolt the lower strut spindle bolts then the top mounting nuts from under the hood do this safely ,they willfall down and hurt you. then using spring compressing tools or a strut compressor compress the spring,thenunbolt the top nut to remove the strut from the spring .

The 1999 Toyota does not have rear struts. The automobile has rear shocks. Remove the retaining bolts from each end of the shock. Reverse the process to install the new shock.
