The tail light housing comes away from the body of the van, remaining connected by electrical wires. The front of the housing extends into a slot in the body of the van. The rear of the housing is held in place by two, small, round plastic connectors.
1. Open the tailgate. Locate the two plastic plugs on each side of the van near the edge of each tail light housing. They are about the size of a U.S. nickel in diameter.
2. These connectors have a small plug that pushes down into an insert (similar to a drywall plug) that expands when the plug is pushed in. Gently pull out the the inner plug. I used a screw driver to pry it out. Do NOT try to pry between the connector and the metal -- just between the inner knob and the flange of the plastic piece. The plug will NOT separate completely from the insert. Once the plug is in the out position, the entire insert can be pulled out of the hole.
3. Remove them both and voila the housing comes loose from the vehicle. The tail light (bottom lamps), brake lights (middle lamps) and backing lights (top lamps) are all plugged into the house and can be removed by hand.
4. Replace the housing by first slipping the front of the housing back into its slot, then replacing the inserts...first sliding the insert in its hole then pushing the inner plug back in.
