I am facing the same problem with my 2001 jetta. The door ajar switch is integrated into the locking mechanism of the door. i was told by a mechanic at the vw dealer that the lock needs to be replaced and the part alone is about $200. I had the same problem, but it was solved by spraying a little lubricant on the door latch. I was shocked when it worked because the dealer wanted to charge me $400.
