If the mirror is cracked , just go to a glass place and they can sell you another one that will fit over the old one for about $10.00. You just use silicone to attach it. Otherwise you will need to take the door panel off.
your best bet would just to take the car into the shop and have it done but if you do not want to spend the money then you should reattach the wires by twisting them together and then use electrical tape and then rehook the spring that bends the mirror in and then try to rescrew the hing best that you can then if it is worse break to where u could not do this then you have take it to the shop cause there it nothing else that i can do for you.
The drivers side mirror on a 1970 Cutlass is easily replaced with just a screwdriver. The mirrors have no electrical wires to connect. Remove the screws holding the mirror in place, then remove the mirror. Re-connect the new mirror, adjusting the placement to fit securely against the body of the car, and insert new screws.
Open the door, and look for the plastic cover located at the corner of the door. Once you get the plastic cover off, you should see the nuts that hold the mirror to the vehicle. I watched a video. If you look for a driver mirror on ebay, there is a seller that has a video that shows how to do this in detail.
