Remove the dash and replace the evaporator...you might as well replace the heater core while your in there. Its a big job...but can be done a lot cheaper than bringing it to a mechanic
no , the heater core is for your heat , the evaporator core is for your air conditioning ( cooling )
The entire, and I mean ENTIRE front dash has to come out to remove the heater box which then must be disassembled in order to replace the evaporator or heater core. Not a job for the feint of heart.

It is located underneath the center of the dash. It requires the removal of the air conditioning evaporator on cars with air to replace it. On some years the removal of the steering column is also required.
The expansion valve is located in the lines connecting the evaporator core which is located inside the evaporator housing behind the dash and the glove box.
