How do you replace the floor console lamp in a 1996 Ford Taurus?

- Open the storage / armrest lid
- Follow the top portion of the cover to where it comes to the top-front of the storage compartment
- Simply lift up - there are no screws, nor any clips (at least on mine)
- Where the top portion connects to the front section, there are 2 'ears' that go underneath the front piece -
- tilt the back section way up, nearly vertical and lift away
- NOTES:
- The front section has 2 hidden 'friction' clip type fasteners at the top, just to each side of the ashtray.
- put the shifter way down into 1st gear to make some room for getting the front section out
- Lift and pull the cover towards you - wiggle it a bit side-to-side to gently extract the hidden fasteners.
With the 2 panels pulled up and away, you can see the gear shifter mechanism - along with the lightbulb socket.
