Disc brakes are so easy, no one should pay to have them done. The caliper is mounted with two bolts(Allen head) You will need the appropriate sized Allen wrench to remove them. Tap the caliper outward with a hammer to release it. Leave the inner brake pad in place for the moment, it provides a base for the C-clamp step next. With at least an 8 inch C-clamp, compress the brake piston to its most open position. You need to open the cover on the master cylinder under the hood first to relieve fluid pressure or the piston won't move. Once the piston is open, take that remaining old pad out, put the new ones in and put the caliper back on. Tap gently with a hammer (rubber mallet is better) to work back into place. If the pads hit the rotor, you did not seat the piston deep enough with the clamp. And don't forget to put the cap back on the master cylinder. Usually, you don't even need to bleed the brakes after this, unless you had problems other than pad wear!.
blown brake hose, front passenger side in 1997 chevy malibu?
If you haven't done it before, have an experienced mechanic help you with the your first brake job. If you do it wrong you could damage the vehicle or end up with unreliable brakes.
first off are they disk brakes, (like the front one)? or drum brakes?
Ask Watt

how to replace a heater core in a 1997 Chevy blazer
Look at the pads and measure the thickness. The minimum allowed thickness for the brakes pads is 2 mm. Replace if they are worn to this point. You will have to remove the wheel to measure the pads.
Hopefully on the front and rear.
